Momo Challenge

*Warning: Some images may be disturbing for some readers

Hey guys, I know, two posts in one week? ^.^ That's got to be a record but then again I've been posting quite a bit this month.

Anyways, there's some warnings that's going around on social media about the Momo Challenge. This has been somewhat an old hoax from back in 2016. I distinctly remembering the mention of it but I've never seen the videos or graphics until now and as some of you know, I'm a big horror fan that "inserts fear in people."

Momo is an entity that comes up on YouTube and WhatsApp that convinces viewers particularly young adults and children (I will be getting into this later) to do a variety of things but especially hurt themselves and commit suicide. Lately it's been popping up on Fortnite videos as well as Peppa the Pig episodes.

I myself am not a big fan of this, because

a) Pushing someone to commit suicide is WRONG!

b) Targeting children is cyberbullying.

c) Just look at the graphic! That alone should give viewers a red flag that you shouldn't do whatever it tells you!

Parents, if you let your child use these apps, please be careful but at the same time, do not give your children an electronic at such a young age. Let them enjoy their innocence and play outside or you know: Have a life beyond a screen. It just astonishes me that so many children are glued to an Ipad or a phone and with them playing around on YouTube or whatever games are on your phone. It's no wonder this type of "challenge" happened.

Fortunately, it's all a hoax. No videos exist on YouTube, but there are still worried parents and frightened children. If you look online, YouTube says that there are no videos on Momo, but the hacking might still be there so I would still take precaution when it comes to kids that are watching on YouTube. Also, I know a lot of us know this, but do NOT click on any ads that pop up during those videos. Most likely it's spam or something you do not want attaching to your phone or Ipad.

As a fellow horror writer, it may be fun to poke at the innocence of children since they're vulnerable but once it starts getting out of hand like causing some kind of scare in parents, it can be terrifying especially in the real world. Of course, the Internet is a wonderful tool to use but some people do abuse it to poke fun especially at kids. Mentally, it will scar those kids. As well as leave parents wanting to be helicopter parents because then they'll be flagging everything their child is watching.

Momo Challenge DEBUNKED!
